Ashley Russell Named 2012 Scholarship Recipient

The Amarillo Chapter of International Association of Administrative Professionals has awarded a $250 scholarship for 2012 to Ashley Russell of McLean. Russell will be a freshman at West Texas A&M University pursuing a degree in Business Administration. While in school at McLean ISD she participated in cheerleading, basketball, and drama.


Carla Banks, CAP-OM Receives Award at Division Conference

Carla Banks, CAP-OM, president of the Amarillo Chapter of International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) received the Texas-Louisiana Division President's Award for 2011 – 2012 at the T-L Division Annual meeting held May 18 - 20 in League City, TX. To earn this award, the chapter must meet 10 of 18 criteria. The Amarillo Chapter met all five of the required criteria and seven of the 13 elective criteria. The criteria encompass membership recruitment and involvement, educational programs, leadership training, and record submission.

Banks joined IAAP in 2007 and has served the chapter as vice president before becoming president in 2010. She is Executive Assistant/Office Manager at the WTAMU Police Department.


Emily Garner, CAP-OM, MOS Elected Treasurer of the Texas-Louisiana Division of International Association of Administrative Professionals

Emily Garner, CAP-OM, MOS was elected Treasurer of the Texas-Louisiana Division of International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) at the annual meeting held May 18-20 in League City, Texas. This is Garner's second term as Division Treasurer. Garner joined the Amarillo Chapter of IAAP in November 1996 and has served as the chapter treasurer and was the treasurer for the 2010 T-L Division Annual Meeting hosted by the Amarillo Chapter in May 2010. Garner is Executive Secretary for Masterson Management, Inc.

Emily Garner, CAP-OM, MOS Receives 2012 CMOTY Award

Emily Garner was named the 2012 Amarillo Chapter of International Association of Administrative Professionals Chapter Member of the Year at the chapter's Administrative Professional Day celebration on April 12. Garner joined IAAP in 1996 and currently serves as the treasurer for the Texas-Louisiana Division of IAAP. Garner earned the Certified Administrative Professional – Office Management rating in 2002 and Microsoft Office Specialist certification in 2009.

Garner is employed as executive secretary at Masterson Management Corp. She is married to Kelly Garner, and they have two sons, Andrew and Alex.The Chapter Member of the Year award is presented each year to the chapter member who excels in five areas: IAAP participation, certification participation, education study courses, teaching courses and fundraising/community involvement. Points are awarded for participation in each area and all members are eligible for the award.


Amarillo Chapter Receives Community Service Award at Division Meeting

The Amarillo Chapter received the T-L Division Community Service Award at the annual meeting held May 18-20, 2012, in League City, Texas. The Chapter was cited for participation in Box Tops for Education, donating Boy Scout Popcorn to troops serving overseas, the 2011 Christmas project providing stockings to residents of the a local nursing home, and delivering flowers on Valentine's Day and Mother's Day.


Chris Lyles, CAP-OM Appointed to International Committee

Chris Lyles, CAP-OM, was recently notified that she has been appointed to the International Committee on Nominations. The Committee is responsible for presenting the slate of officer candidates for the International Board of Directors.


Amarillo Chapter of IAAP names Xcel Energy 2011-2012 Company of the Year

In recognition of National Boss Day, the Amarillo Chapter of International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) awarded the Company of the Year (COTY) award to Xcel Energy during the chapter's October meeting.

Linda Hall, Administrative Assistant II, made the nomination citing Xcel Energy's support of the administrative profession and the Amarillo Chapter of IAAP. She states, "Xcel Energy has created the Spot-on-Bonus for managers to reward non-exempt, non-bargaining employees for outstanding performance." The COTY award was presented by Carla Banks, CPS/CAP, Chapter President and COTY Committee member.

Gary McBride, Manager, Substation Construction, accepted the award on behalf of Xcel Energy.
